Sleep Tip #58: Meditate for Better Sleep

The stresses of the day can wreak havoc on your mind and body at night. Your mind may run wild, preventing you from sleeping even if you are exhausted. You may even toss and turn as you remember things that you may have forgotten to do or need to do the following day. A great way to prepare for bed is through a nice meditation session. If you haven't meditated before, it revolves around breathing exercises to help you relax mentally and physically. For a quick guide to meditating, refer here: http://www.howtomeditate.us/
The next time you can’t sleep, try meditating for a few minutes and release any stressful thoughts that may be keeping you awake. This will allow you to be at peace and get quality sleep!

Sleep Tip #44: Wind Down with a Cup of Decaf Tea

Trying to relax before bed is always a good idea. If you have trouble falling asleep, consider drinking a cup of decaffeinated herbal tea at the end of each day. Choose between chamomile or blends that use lavender herbs, as these have been used to treat insomnia for hundreds of years. You may be surprised that even just taking the time to sit down, enjoy your tea and clear your mind before bed will put you in a relaxing state.

Sleep Tip #35: Write in a Journal to Fall Back Asleep

Waking up in the middle of the night can be very stressful. Some people may try to force themselves to fall back asleep, which causes more stress and keeps them up later. If you have already tried techniques such as visualization and breathing to nod off but they have not worked, get up. Try doing something soothing to put your mind back at ease. Writing in a journal may help ease your mind back into a sleepy state. Write out lists or create a poem or limerick while you're awake. This will keep your mind occupied and not worried about the fact that you aren't asleep, helping you to doze off easily when the time comes.

Sleep Tip #26 - Make a To-Do List the Night Before

Does it seem that the moment you lay down to fall asleep at night, you realize there's 100 things you forgot to do that you will have to take care of tomorrow? This is very typical, as we tend to reflect about our days every night. Instead of worrying that you are going to forget something, make a to-do list! Writing down all the tasks you need to complete for the next day a few hours before bed will help to relieve your mind, and make falling asleep much easier.

Sleep Tip #14: Create a Consistent Wind-Down Routine

The brain needs at least an hour of wind-down time before you go to sleep every night. Instead of playing on your Blackberry, iPhone, or laptop, take time to relax before bed. Using the excuse of having to work all day and not having time to partake in leisurely activities right before bed should be erased from your mindset! Make sure you set specific times to play with your children, watch TV, or shop online earlier in the night.
